Home Sweet Home - Remodeling the Kitchen Part 1

If you follow my Instagram account, you may have seen bits and pieces of my current creative venture - remodeling our small farmhouse kitchen with my hubby, Eric.

A month ago he surprised me with the start of the remodel - something totally out of the blue as a gift to me for being so patient with the 2nd floor reno (have I mentioned that we've been sleeping in the the dining-room for 3 years now? Yeah, we have, but it's cool.) We do all of the work ourselves (we totally renovated our last home, an old utility building that served as the original cable company for that area back in the 50's), so we have a wee bit of experience and love the process and treasures of house history we find along the way!

Being an avid baker, lover of all things flavored coffee and tea, and cook of all meals home grown/ raised and made from scratch, he felt it was time our kitchen got an upgrade while I am still waiting for us to be able to get back to the upstairs work.

Here is where our little kitchen started....
----------------------------------------------
The "before" was a party in 70's yellow and brown with a wall oven at one end of the room (manufactured 2 years after I was born) and the stove top at the other. Pale sage green accents in the 80's wallpaper border, around the wall oven, and on the pantry-turned-bathroom door completed the lovely decor.

Don't get me wrong....I LOVE our property and I am THANKFUL to have a warm, safe home and to be able to live this country farm life. But I am also grateful that we are able to update as we go along ;)

When we removed the long line of upper cupboards, we found MORE yellow, this time in the form of yellow striped paneling.

And lo and behold...more yellow paneling AND sweet retro avocado green linoleum was hiding behind and under another cabinet space. Truth is, the green flooring we found DOES kinda match the lower cabinet paint I chose to redo the cupboards with. Our dog, Daisy, is even impressed ♥

So there you have our kitchen beginnings. Yellow, brown, paneling, sage, avocado, 1970's and 80's.

I can't wait to show you where we are NOW so watch for Part 2 beginning of next week. All I cn say is WOW!!! What a difference!

See you then!!
